"twice today, women had laughed at him for being an idiot" - Brogan Ledin, Arch Cleric of Aiden
Just spoke to my narrator, Sean Wybrant, and we're on track for an audible release of Sorrow in early December. Very exciting!
From the beginning of the project, Sean has offered his services as an outside editor - which is partly the reason for the second edition and delayed release of Sorrow. As a writer, it was harder for me to admit that an extra set of eyes would be useful for the project, but I eventually came around. And actually, the process was incredible. He asked a few questions about my characters that I hadn't even considered before. As I got deeper in the editing process, my mindset completely shifted as to how I see my characters interacting within a scene. Before, they'd be talking and moving around - but I never fleshed out their emotions or defined why they might be interacting with others the way they are. It's a major thing for a writer to realize.
It's also something that CANNOT be achieved in the first few drafts. I wrote Sorrow of the Dragon Gods, originally, as my capstone project to receive my Bachelor of Arts degree at ISU. I was so proud to have written 300+ pages over a two semester period, and at the time, I could have never gone back and made the changes that I have at this stage of the process. There's a level of detachment that must be achieved - a complete separation from the world itself to see the characters as actual breathing and thinking beings.
So this is how Sorrow came to be. Print and Kindle editions will be published on August 16th and Sean will continue to work on the audible format, with more details to come!
